Polytheism means pluralism – diversity of thoughts and freedom to various faiths. Muhammad promoted monotheism to make a united front against Judaism and Christianity. He wanted that there should be no pluralism in thoughts and faiths in the Arab Peninsula.

While under Muhammad, Muslim remained largely uniformly united and monotheistic, after him, they became polytheistic (pluralistic) by developing various schools and thoughts and faiths, although they deny it. While they claim to believe in one God, but in facts they remain divisive like the polytheists with all kinds of divisive thoughts and sects among them. They only unite as one body against non-Muslims, but remain very divisive in its most virulent form among themselves. They cannot produce a united and peaceful front both within and among Muslim states.

There are so many sects in Islam: Sunni, Shia, Ahmadia, Islmaili, Salafi, Sufi, Nizari Wahhabi, the submitters, Nation of Islam, Ibadi, Kharijism, Mahdavi and more. They are fighting each other fiercely and violently. This is not expected in any peaceful society.

While Muslims remains polytheistic in term of the pluralism of thoughts and sects, their scriptures also promotes polytheism, such as in their belief in Judaic and Christian theory and their prophets, whether this is just taqiya or else: See Quran (clearquran.com)

Quran 2:136: Say, “We believe in God; and in what was revealed to us; and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs; and in what was given to Moses and Jesus; and in what was given to the prophets—from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we surrender.”

Isn’t this polytheism?

They also believe in angels.

Quran 2:177. Righteousness does not consist of turning your faces towards the East and the West. But righteous is he who believes in God, and the Last Day, and the angels, and the Scripture, and the prophets.

They also believe in Torah and Gospel and related family.

Quran 3.3. He sent down to you the Book with the Truth, confirming what came before it; and He sent down the Torah and the Gospel.

Quran 3.33. God chose Adam, and Noah, and the family of Abraham, and the family of Imran, over all mankind.

Islam is, thus, not an independent religion, which Muslims agree to in principle. Indeed, the Quran itself claims that Islam is a concoction of Judaism, Christianity, Sabianism (Yemeni star-worshipping), and Magianism (Zoroastrianism) etc. This, in principle, makes Islam polytheism in one.

Plurality of Islam can be summarized in the following incomplete list of beliefs:

Islam’s claim of monotheism is thus only a false façade, but it remains polytheistic in its core with so many beliefs and divisions just like in polytheism. Muslim countries also cannot unite as one, but are bitterly divided and hostile to each other forever. But Islam can claim to be truly monotheistic in its being fiercely hostile and violent against non-believers.
