Introduction

At the beginning of the 20th century, we had Muslim thinkers whose ideas are wreaking havoc nowadays all over the world. I am thinking of Maududi of Pakistan and Sayyid Qutb of Egypt. We can witness their thought handiworks in our days. Pakistan is currently a failed state. It harbors terrorists. Osama bin Ladin evaded capture by US troops for a long time in Pakistan. Zawahiri, 2nd in command to Al- Qaeda, is probably living somewhere in Pakistan as I write those lines.

Qutb’s influence took most Arab countries back closer to 7th century Arabia on many fronts. The most visible were women’s dresses. About fifty years ago, women in the Arab world dressed moderate and normal. Now, the Islamic Hijab or Niqab is visible everywhere you go in the Arab world. The Muslim brothers movement was founded by Qutb. Their organization exists pretty much in every country on earth. Those people are the carriers of the mantle of Islam. They want to take all people of the world to live in an environment similar to how Muhammad lived.

The question that comes to mind here is How did Muhammad live, and is there an entity or a country in the world that may give us a peak into how Muhammad and his Sahaba (the early Muslims who lived around Muhammad and interacted with him) lived.

Well, ask no more: ISIS represents Islam proper. Ignore what politicians say. Truth can be stranger than fiction.

What did ISIS do and is doing

The Islamic state of Iraq and Syria started by forcing Christians who live in their area to pay a special tax just because they are Christians. ISIS killed those who refused. Many Christian communities just left the area and went to Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey, and any other country that was willing to allow them in. Other communities who were not considered as people of the book, like the Yazidis, were dealt with in a horrific way. Adult men were shot and killed en-masse. Their women were taken as captive slaves by ISIS men. Many were sold between ISIS men for an agreed upon price.
The barbarity of ISIS extended to their war captives. Their captives were paraded and killed. The killing action took many forms: Beheading, then displaying their bodies on the streets. Shooting, pushing from a high building, crucifying, and burning alive.

Lately, I am glad to see certain developments take place to rid the world from this barbaric entity called ISIS. Many countries are working a commendable military effort to rid the world of this evil.

ISIS is a result of the direct teaching of Maududi and Qutb (the chain of influence here extends back to Muhammad of the 7th century). This is what they both spoke about when they wanted to establish a universal Khilafat.

Someone may beg to argue that what ISIS is doing is not Islam. Well, the best way to find out if this is Islam or not is to see what Muhammad and his Sahaba did

What did Muhammad and his Sahaba do?

The sum of it is that Muhammad and the Sahaba were very evil and cruel men. Let us start with what Muhammad did to bani Qurayza. He beheaded between 600 and 800 men in one day. That same evening Muhammad went to solace himself with one of their women:

During the night, trenches sufficient to contain the dead bodies of the men were dug across the market place of the city. In the morning, Mahomet, himself a spectator of the tragedy, commanded that male captives to be brought forth in companies of five or six at a time. Each company as it came up was made to sit down in a row on the brink of the trench destined for its grave, there beheaded, and the bodies cast therein. … The butchery, begun in the morning, lasted all day, and continued by torchlight till the evening. Having thus drenched the market place with the blood of seven or eight hundred victims, and having given command for the earth to be smoothed over their remains, Mahomet returned from the horrid spectacle to solace himself with the charms of Rihana, whose husband and all her male relatives had just perished in the massacre. [Source: W. Muir, The Life of Muhammad, (Edinburg 1923, Pages 307-8)].

In addition to genocide of a whole tribe (nation!), Muhammad distributed the women amongst his men. He also sold some of them as slaves to buy weapons.

Muhammad had no feelings of the suffering of others. Here is a story testifying to this fact:

Narrated Abu Qilaba: Anas said, “Some people of ‘Ukl or ‘Uraina tribe came to Medina and its climate did not suit them. So the Prophet ordered them to go to the herd of (Milch) camels and to drink their milk and urine (as a medicine). So they went as directed and after they became healthy, they killed the shepherd of the Prophet and drove away all the camels. The news reached the Prophet early in the morning and he sent (men) in their pursuit and they were captured and brought at noon. He then ordered to cut their hands and feet (and it was done), and their eyes were branded with heated pieces of iron, They were put in ‘Al-Harra’ and when they asked for water, no water was given to them.” Abu Qilaba said, “Those people committed theft and murder, became infidels after embracing Islam and fought against Allah and His Apostle .” (Bukhari: Book #4, Hadith #234)

Muhammad’s closed ones do not fair any better. Here is a story about Muhammad’s son-in-law and the 4th of the guided Khalifs, Ali:

Narrated Ikrima: Ali burnt some people and this news reached Ibn ‘Abbas, who said, “Had I been in his place I would not have burnt them, as the Prophet said, ‘Don’t punish (anybody) with Allah’s Punishment.’ No doubt, I would have killed them, for the Prophet said, ‘If somebody (a Muslim) discards his religion, kill him.’ ” (Bukhari: Book #52, Hadith #260)

The Sirat and Hadith books are full of stories about Muhammad and his close bandits attacking tribes, enslaving people, stealing properties from others, burning trees and plantations of others.

The sum of it is ISIS have their guidance from their prophet, Muhammad, and his surrounding men. Their actions in history during the 7th century is a manual followed by ISIS.
