In the previous two articles (5G & 5H), we have compared the fasting spirits—Jesus vs Muhammad, and Modern Muslims vs Sahaaba, respectively. In this article, let us investigate the fasting spirit of our incomparable prophet, the greatest Prophet of God, and one and the only ‘perfect’ Muslim and human being ever to be born.

FASTING OF MUHAMMAD – THE FUNNY SIDE

While Muhammad’s character is filled with too many negatives, the worst tyrant sometimes shows a sense of humor in their words and deeds. Some of Muhammad’s sayings and actions on various issues too would have made people laugh. Actually, there were many occasions on which he made his followers laugh. Unfortunately, the Mullahs try their best to hide those hadiths from us, thus depriving us a little bit of fun that Islam offers. Here, I have picked one such entertaining hadith from the chapters of fasting.

Narrated 'Aisha: Allah's Apostle used to fast till one would say that he would never stop fasting, and he would abandon fasting till one would say that he would never fast… (Sahih Al-Bukhari 3:190 & 192)

From these hadith, we learn a ‘Sunnah’ that the process of fasting is not divine, at least for Muhammad, but a matter of fun. It also creates doubt about whether or not Muhammad fasted fully even during the month of Ramadan, because the hadiths say: Muhammad would stop fast, if someone says that he wouldn’t stop. Dear Muslims brother! What prophetic message or ‘Sunnah’ did Muhammad want to deliver to us through these hadiths?

RAMADAN FAST AND SEX

Those, who have studied the Quran and Ahadith, know how immoral these books are as far as civility in sexual matters is concerned. Here I like to bring some of the Ramadan-related sexual deeds of Muhammad and his wives, taken from the authentic collection of Hadiths, to the attention of readers. Readers must keep in mind that these are softer Hadiths that reflect the watered-down version of the true character of Muhammad, because the ahadith that are translated till today are the softer, less embarrassing ones. According to secular Arabic scholars, the important hadiths, which reflect the actual character of Muhammad and his companions, are yet to be translated from Arabic. It is likely that Muslim rulers and Islamic scholars will try to prevent translations of those ‘special’ hadiths into other languages. It is also possible that they may destroy those ancient Arabic manuscripts, which reflect the true character of Muhammad.

MUHAMMAD – THE BEST OF ALL MANKIND

Allah says in the Quran that Muhammad is the best amongst the humankind and exemplary for others.

“Ye have indeed in the Apostle of God a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in God and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise of God.”  (Quran, Sura Al-Ahzaab 33:21)

“And verily, you (O Muhammad SAW) are on an exalted standard of character.” (Quran, Sura Al-Qalam 68:4)

Let us oblige to Allah’s verdict on Muhammad, and try to assess if we will have ‘guts’ to emulate those ‘Sunna’ by taking Muhammad as an exemplary model.

NO TARAWEEH, NO QIYAM AL-LAIL, NO TAHAJJUD AND NO SUHOOR BUT SEX

We Muslims are told not to waste our time in vain talks, abstain from worldly funs and try our best to convince Allah day and night during the month of Ramadan to forgive our sins. However, we have seen that the merciful Allah kept our sexual urges in mind and allowed us to sleep with our wives and concubines during night time in the month of Ramadan (Quran, Sura Al-Baqra 2:187). And our holy prophet made use of this verse as best as he could.

Narrated 'Aisha and Um Salama: At times Allah's Apostle used to get up in the morning in the state of Janaba after having sexual relations with his wives. He would then take a bath and fast. (Sahih Al-Bukhari 3:148-152)

Narrated Abu Bakr bin 'Abdur-Rahman: My father and I went to 'Aisha and she said, "I testify that Allah's Apostle at times used to get up in the morning in a state of Janaba from sexual intercourse, not from a wet dream and then he would fast that day." Then he went to Um Salama and she also narrated a similar thing. (Sahih Al-Bukhari 3:153)

The mind of us Muslims are shaped by our Mullahs in such a way that we can’t bring us to think that our prophet would do certain things that he actually did. For us, Ramadan is the busiest month for seeking redemption and salvation. After saying the Isha prayer, there is a prayer of Taraaweeh, then Qiyam al-Lail, then Suhoor, and finally our night ends with the morning prayer. After the disturbed sleepless nights, we hardly get 2-3 hours of sleep and then rush to our usual jobs. It is very difficult for us to follow the above Sunnah of Muhammad on sex during the month of Ramadan. It is especially very difficult for Muslims of non-Arab countries, where the working hours are as usual as during other months.

MUHAMMAD’S EXTRAORINARY POWER TO CONTROL HIS SEXUAL URGE?

Even while fasting during his self-proclaimed ‘sacred’ month of Ramadan, our holy prophet was unable to control his sexual urges, and used to hug his wives, kiss them and even suck their tongues. We can’t even bring ourselves to give a try to do what prophet Muhammad used to do while keeping fast, because ‘Muhammad had the power to control his sexual desires’ as per our greatest ‘Ummul mominoon’, Aisha:

Aisha, Ummul mominoon, (mother of the believers) said to Muslims, “Muhammad used to kiss and embrace his wives, while he was fasting and he had more power to control his desires than any of you.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari 3:50)

Narrated 'Aisha: The Prophet used to kiss and embrace (his wives) while he was fasting, and he had more power to control his desires than any of you. Said Jabir, "The person who gets discharge after casting a look (on his wife) should complete his fast." (Sahih Al-Bukhari 3:49)

Aisha, the mother of the believers, said, “Muhammad used to kiss and SUCK HER TOUNG, while he was fasting.” (Sunan Abu Dawood 13:2380-86)

(There are several hadiths on Muhammad’s ‘sucking’ the tongues of his wives during while keeping fast during Ramadan.)

In the above hadiths, our Ummul Mominoon, the child-bride of the holy prophet, says, even after hugging and kissing his wives, Muhammad had full control over his sexual urge. She also challenges other Muslims about the power of controlling their sexual urges by saying that none else could control it like the prophet. Surprisingly, Aisha seemed to have known about poor control of sexual urges of other Muslims. But she had sexual intimacy only with aged Muhammad, and Muhammad didn’t allow any of his wives to re-marry after his death. Then how it is possible for Aisha to know the sexual secrets of other men?

EQUAL ‘TREATMENT’ OF WIVES BY MUHAMMAD DURING RAMADAN

The Prophet did not hug and kiss only his favorite child-wife Aisha while fasting during the month of Ramadan. Other wives too used to get some share in the prophet’s hugging, kissing, tongue-sucking play-thing while fasting during Ramadan.

Narrated 'Aisha: The Prophet used to kiss and embrace (his wives) while he was fasting, and he had more power to control his desires than any of you. Said Jabir, "The person who gets discharge after casting a look (on his wife) should complete his fast." (Sahih Al-Bukhari 3:149)

Narrated Hisham's father: Aisha said, "Allah's Apostle used to kiss some of his wives while he was fasting," and then she smiled. (Sahih Al-Bukhari 3:150)

Narrated Zainab: (daughter of Um Salama) that her mother said, "…. I and Allah's Apostle used to take a bath from one water pot and he used to kiss me while he was fasting." (Sahih Al-Bukhari 3:151)

MUHAMMAD THE SUPER-MAN OF SEX

‘Itikaaf’ is part of Ramadan fasting ritual, when a Muslim isolates himself from his family and totally confines him in the mosque. And our prophet used to isolate himself from the family and worldly life while observing ‘Itikaaf’ by inviting his wives to the mosque during night hours (I will discuss the issue of Muhammad’s ‘ITIKAAF’ in a separate article at the end of this series). What a beloved prophet of Allah was Muhammad, who, even in his 60s, was unable to control his sexual urge and had meet-ups with his wives inside the mosque even during Itikaaf? In fact, how could he when the merciful Allah had given him 40 men’s sexual power? Some hadiths mention that Muhammad was given by Allah.

Waqid said: “The Prophet of Allah used to say that I was among those who have little strength for intercourse. Then Allah sent me a pot with cooked meat. After I ate from it, I found strength any time I wanted to do the work.” (Ibn Sa’d, Kitab Tabaqat Al-Kubra, 8:200)

He (the Prophet) once said of himself that he had been given the power of forty men in sex. (Ibn Sa’d, Kitab Tabaqat Al-Kubra, 8:139)

Anas said, "The prophet used to visit all his wives in an hour round, during the day and night and they were eleven in number." I asked Anas, "Had the prophet the strength for it?" Anas replied, "We used to say that the prophet was given the strength of thirty (men).(Sahih Al-Bukhari 1:268)

Muhammad was correct. He was the superman of sex. He certainly deserved the title of “The Prophet of Sex”.

AISHA SKIPPED FAST TO ‘SERVE’ MUHAMMAD

The following information may shock us, but it is from our authentic Islamic sources. We have already discussed with authentic proofs about how our beloved prophet used to deceive his companions by pretending to be fasting in Ramadan. Now let us analyze how Aisha daringly announced that she did not fast in order to ‘take care of’ (the non-fasting) Muhammad.

  1. Narrated 'Aisha: Sometimes I missed some days of Ramadan, but could not fast in lieu of them except in the month of Sha'ban." Said Yahya, a sub-narrator, "She used to be busy serving the Prophet." (Sahih Al-Bukhari 3:171)
  2. Aisha did not observe fast out of regard for the Messenger of Allah. (Sahih Muslim 6:2550)

Because Aisha had to look after the prophet, she could not keep her fast, as women must be permitted by their husbands to be able to keep fast. So, she would be a prime candidate for burning in hell—also because of her missing prayers during periods and of having half the intelligence of men.

  1. "Abu Huraira narrated that the Messenger of God said, 'No woman can fast a day of Ramadan, while her husband is there, without his prior permission.'" (Al-Tirmidi, Sawm 65)
  2. "Any woman who fasts without the permission of her husband, and he desired her for a certain thing but she refused, God will record three major sins against her." (Kanz al-`ummal, 22:2)

The phrase, “If a man ‘needs’ his wife”, clearly indicates that he is not fasting. That means both are not fasting. Similarly, if Aisha had to abstain from fast to ‘serve’ Muhammad, then Muhammad too was not fasting during those days. Moreover, he used to hug, kiss and suck the tongues of his wives even while fasting.

Dear Brethren! The above Islamic sources reveal directly and indirectly about Muhammad’s and Aisha’s abstention from fast during the month of Ramadan in black and white. Why shouldn’t we too follow the sacred ‘Sunnah’ of our holy prophet?

SEX ON RAMADAN EVE IN HEAVEN TOO

Concerns about the believers’ sexual matters during Ramadan did not remain confined to Muhammad’s Arabia alone. It extended to Allah’s heaven too:

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar: The Prophet said, “Paradise is decorated for Ramadan from the beginning of the year until the following year, and when the first day of Ramadan comes, a wind under the throne blows some of the leaves of paradise onto the maidens with large bright eyes, and they say, ‘My Lord, appoint us husbands from among Thy servants, with whom we shall be happy and who will be happy with us.” (Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 1967)

CONCLUSION

Dear brethren! After reading the latest three essays in this series (5G, 5H & this one) on Muhammad’s and his Sahaaba’s attitude toward the observance of Ramadan fasting, none should have difficulty in understanding the level of ‘divinity’ behind this Islamic ritual. As a normal Muslim, it is impossible for us to adopt these ‘Sunnah’ of kissing our wives or sucking their tongues, while keeping fast in what we believe the ‘sacred fasting month of Ramadan’.

In these three articles, we have witnessed the fasting techniques of our prophet and sublime Sahaaba. If you, my brothers, want to know more about the reverence with which the “sacred” Ramadan is being observed today in the holy prophet’s native country, our holy land Saudi Arabia, please read these two old articles of mine:

  1. Ramadan in Saudi: It's Party Time, Part 1
  2. Ramadan in Saudi: It's Part Time, Part 2

After reading those articles, don’t start scolding the Saudis on their poor attitude toward Ramadan fasting, because they—by being the people of the prophet’s race and culture and being able to read everything about Islam in their mother tongue Arabic—know our Islam much better than do we. So, they certainly know better about what Ramadan is and what Muhammad’s Sunna is. If we happen to discuss this issue with our mullahs, we will get the same typically deceiving answers – the Saudis are barbarians; they don’t observe Islam properly. So, we shouldn’t give importance to how they practice Islam.

So far, in this series of articles, I haven’t touched the topic of our Muslim sisters. Our next articles will be on fasting for Muslim women.
