I was born in a Muslim family that did not push religion down the kids' throats. Yet, religion always cast a big shadow on everything. I just had to deal with it and couldn't simply set it aside. And Islam, the Shiite Islam was the most pervasive religion around. I went to all kinds of sources, people and books to settle the issue. Should I believe in religion? If so, should it be the religion of the overwhelming majority? If not, then what? I couldn’t let this question just hang in the air.

According to the laws of genetics, offspring born of close-blood couples, such as of first-cousins, would have higher chances of having manifest genetic disorders. This is because close-blood individuals carry similar genetic defects, which are often silent, because each person carries two copies of each gene, and the good copy of the gene complement for the bad copy.

- Farewell Sex: Allowing spouses to have sex with dead-bodies of their partners;
- Underage marriage: Lowering the age-limit for marriage to 14 years.

It is puzzling that some liberal Muslim writers, who are active in defending women’s rights, claim that the discriminatory traditions regarding women’s inferiority to men are not derived from the Qur’an! A famous Muslim women’s rights defender, Shirin Ebadi, has done just that.
